QuickTime, a software that allows users to watch movie trailers and media clips on the Internet, should now be uninstalled off your Microsoft Windows computer. The once widely-used software is now a threat.

This week, Apple took away support for QuickTime on Windows. This is a threat to users because it then leaves the software vulnerable to certain things. For example, there are two major vulnerabilities that can allow hackers into anyone’s computer. Over the past several years, many “bugs” have been issued with this software. Apple then would proceed to fix the problems. The latest QuickTime update come in late January of this year.

According to a source, the only way to get rid of the potential threat is just to uninstall QuickTime for Windows. They also continue on to state, “…Apple hasn’t dedicated much effort to QuickTime over the past decade. The last major QuickTime release for Windows was in 2005. Apple delivered a substantial QuickTime upgrade for Mac OS in 2009, and the company continues to support QuickTime for Mac with regular security updates.”

QuickTime for Windows will still be available for download and will continue to work. However, even an alert from the The U.S. Department of Homeland Security sent out a warning to users. Apple and DHS also urges user to uninstall the software.

DHS released a statement that read, “Using unsupported software may increase the risks from viruses and other security threats. The only mitigation available is to uninstall QuickTime for Windows.” While some bloggers also came about and called this “urgent.” A page has been set up from Apple for help in uninstalling the program.
