Self-Filling Water Bottle

Could you imagine having a wattle bottle that refills itself?

No more trips to the sink or water fountain would be needed with this new gadget coming out.

Kristof Retezár from Vienna, invented a device named the Fontus that can extract humidity from the air and condense it into drinkable water for cyclists. The Fontus attaches to a bike so water can be produced on long distance rides through country side areas. The device is solar-powered with a condensator that is connected to a series of hydrophobic surfaces that repel water. As the Fontus takes in air, and these surfaces get cold, one is left with condensation.

The Fontus takes water in vapor state and essentially converts it into the liquid state. In ideal conditions the Fontus can produce half a quart of water in an hour. Ideal conditions would be temperatures between 86 degrees and 104 degrees Fahrenheit and between 80 percent and 90 percent humidity. The device also has a filter to remove dust and bugs.

It does not have a filter to remove air contaminants, which is why this product can not be used in city areas. The Fontus was originally created to be used in nature and places with clean air, although they are considering creating a second model equipped with a carbon filter for people wanting to use it in urban areas.

Retezár wanted to create this bottle to solve the global problem of water issues in areas of the world where there is very little groundwater but very high humidity. The designer is aiming to launch a crowd funding campaign to mass produce the product and ideally sell it for under one hundred dollars.

If all goes smoothly the Fontus should hit the market commercially in the next nine to ten months.
